Irene Kritikopoulos studied Classical Civilisation and Near and Middle Easter Civilisations at the University of Toronto (Canada). She later completed her Masters of Science in the technology and analysis of archaeological materials at the Institute of Archaeology, University College London under the supervision of Prof. Ian Freestone.

The topic of her dissertation was a chemical-mineralogical analyses and comparative study of 5th millennium pottery from three sites in Darab, Fars. She participated in Sissi during the 2010 and 2011 seasons working in the Apothiki, and has worked with J. Perreault at Argilos in 2008.
